Surfin’ FLA

Published on September 06, 2007

C’mon, let’s go surfin’ now, everybody’s learnin’ how, come to the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival with me …

In spite of our beachfront proximity, hardcore surf fiends are quick to tell you South Florida waves don’t cut it – this part of the Atlantic is more tranquil than hang ten-able. But that didn’t stop FLIFF from diving right into an acclaimed documentary about a group of California kids aspiring to become professional surfing’s next Big Kahunas. Chasing the Dream (narrated by noted Hollywood loose-cannon Gary Busey) gleams insight into the daily lives of eight serious surfers as they seek out the perfect wave. It also features interviews with some of the all-time greats, like Kelly Slater and Mark Richards.

Catch the dream on Wednesday at Cinema Paradiso (503 SE Sixth St., Fort Lauderdale). Showtimes are 7 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. Tickets cost $10. Call 954-760-9898, or visit www.fliff.com.
