Renda and the Writers

South Florida is home to a bigger literary scene then you might think. You can't spot it on the street, you have to go and seek it out. Fortunately, local poetry slam champ/open mike host extraordinaire/former reality show finalist Renda Writer has made things a little easier on you on Saturday by culling together five published writers from our area for the Local Author Showcase IV.

As with the previous three, Renda is host and moderator, and the event returns for a second time to Gizzi's Coffee (2275 S. Federal Hwy., Delray Beach), which, in case you haven't been, is a spacious and ambient place featuring coffees from around the world. This time around, the featured writers are Latavian Gardner, author of Trapped For So Long, Deborah DeNicola (Inside Light), Shanita Johnson (Soulful Cries),Ruthmarie Matthyssee (On Wings of Hope), and Fort Lauderdale's own Ruth Lazarus. Writer will read excerpts from their books, followed by a Q&A session with the audience and a book signing and sale. It all goes down at 6 p.m. and is free. Call 561-266-9797.
