When South Beach’s glitterati saunter around this evening, they might want to wear uncomplicated shoes – after all, the punks are swarming. A local group of activists have organized an Alley Cat Race for Take Back the Land on Saturday (meet-up is at Lincoln and Washington, South Beach), and folks will be arriving in flocks on mountain bikes. These pursuits are part scavenger hunt, part bicycle messenger styled free-for-all, and any combination of clues, addresses, and directions are given incrementally. It’s only five bucks to take part in the action, but bring a bag to snatch things up along the way to the finish line. When it’s all over, the post-race party is at 5020 NW Fifth Ave., Miami. That’s where three measly bucks gets you a shitload of kickass bands, a dj spinning booty house and hip hop, sweaty new friends, and the highly-anticipated awards ceremony. Learn more at takebacktheland.blogspot.com. Registration for the race starts at 5 p.m. with the race kicking off at 6:30.
