Go BJ, it’s Your Earth Day

These days everybody’s going green. Last year, NBC devoted an entire week’s worth of programming to green initiatives, which is why we ended up with a horrible episode of 30 Rock about David Schwimmer’s “Greenzo” character. Credit card providers are in on it too – you’ve probably been asked to sign up for paper-saving E-statements already, but that’s just a vast conspiracy involving overzealous spam filters and automatic late fees. (You got us once, MasterCard…you bastards.) But the fact is, green is good. In order for us all to keep on keepin’ on, we’ve got to get a whole lot smarter about the way we consume. And thanks to nifty events like Earth Day: Get Your Green On, we can.

Yup, this Saturday and Sunday the Museum of Discovery and Science (401 SW Second St., Fort Lauderdale) will be filled with dozens of activities, exhibitions, and demonstrations all designed to get you thinking green. The Earth-friendly festivities will include a Reuse-It Art Corner, dedicated to creating masterpieces out of recyclables, a solar powered race car demo on Saturday, and food tastings from local organic purveyors German Bread Haus, Pizza Fusion, and Publix Greenwise. You’ll also learn a bit about how Fort Lauderdale’s recycling program does its part, how FPL manages to power your home, and how fruit bats help care for the Earth. (Random, right?)
