Who Says Romance is Dead?

It’s seeping in its own juices at Bathhouse: The Musical

By Jamie Laughlin

Billy wasn’t like the other boys; he wanted a romance that looked as good dry as it did wet. What he got was a musical education about the not-so-complex world of bathhouse relationships, namely that few unions linger after the post-coital steam settles. No, this isn’t the conceptual scheme of a skin flick — it’s better, much better. Billy is the fish (though, guppy might be more appropriate) in the new fish out of water tale, Bathhouse: The Musical!

Learn the intricacies of bathhouse etiquette along with Billy when his three new acquaintances, Teddy, Maurice, and David, help demystify this world of man-on-man hook-ups. Songs about internet dating, rousing choruses like “Penises are Like Snowflakes,” and nearly-naked beefcakes make up the meat of this towel-snappingly unconventional theater production. If past performances are any indication, this show will sell out as it has in Atlanta, Orlando, and New York. So go ahead, unwind and take a shvitz with the cast of Bathhouse; it’s being performed by those scamps at Rising Action Theatre (840 E. Oakland Park Blvd., Fort Lauderdale) every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday until September 7th. Call 954-561-2225, or visit www.risingactiontheatre.com.
Wednesdays, Fridays-Sundays. Starts: Aug. 22. Continues through Sept. 7, 2008
