If for some reason you watched the fifth season of The Man Show, the man you saw hosting was not Doug Stanhope. It was merely the shell of a man who’d been neutered by a cable network. The real Doug Stanhope will be showing up at the Poorhouse on Friday night (110 SW Third Ave., Fort Lauderdale).

He’s a man with more true stories about visiting transvestite prostitutes than anyone is comfortable hearing — but testing the limits of comfort in comedy is where he excels. Stanhope will never be an extremely popular comedian because he simply pushes too many buttons and is too raw for mainstream audiences. But for those who like to take chances — or those who find gallows humor hilarious — do yourself a favor and drop $25 to see this show. Stanhope starts his act at 8 p.m. You’ll walk out changed in one way or another. Call 954-522-5145, or visit dougstanhope.com.
