The king of Miami Salvadoran restaurants, Manuel Chavez puts an even brighter shine on his reputation at the Pembroke Pines branch of Atlakat. Known for its pupusas, Atlakat has an appetizer sampler platter -- full of chicharonnes, plantains, yucca, grilled steak, and those delicious aforementioned corn patties -- that will send you spinning happily off into such delights as grilled tilapia, seafood soup, Salvadoran-style steaks with hot sauce. There’s also great native coffee and batidos to wash everything down. Forget the desserts. Revel in the tamales instead.
