The controlled mayhem of this brightly lit, busy Cantonese restaurant is misleading. Everybody at Silver Pond, from the Hong Kong chefs to the efficient servers, knows exactly what he or she is doing. The simplest standbys (fried rice) are as satisfying as the most exotic offerings (shark’s fin soup, braised sea cucumber). Tanks full of live lobsters, crabs, eels, and flounder attest to the freshness of the fare, none of which is overcooked, oversalted, or over-MSG'd. Favorite dishes include baked, salted lobster, stir-fried fresh crab in its shell, and whole Peking duck for two (no need to order in advance). Prix fixe family dinners for up to ten are a varied sampler of the kitchen’s star turns. But you can’t go wrong on this menu of more than 100 authentic Chinese dishes.
