Sharks,have always been a threat. Me and sharks don't get along and these divers that like to feed these aggressive and dangerous creatures are just asking to be attacked.

This is one of the best written and researched articles about the Shearwater attack I have seen to date. In the aftermath of this attack almost everyone who had a film to hawk, website to promote, or pro Shearwater agenda to push went on an industry wide rampage.

The likes of which the U.S dive industry has never seen in it's 60 year history.

Notably Eric Cheng who's the owner of Wetpixel.com and who became the self appointed clearing house for pro Shearwater news. Teaming up with the Shark Angles they went door to door in an effort to try and convince people that sharks are not dangerous and open water feeds like the one that took Markus G's life are "safe".

What Eric Cheng failed to reveal to the world was the fact he and Wetpixel.com made money from his booked and hosted shark dive adventures aboard the Shearwater-a fact that continues to this day. He was also a producer/cameraman on the recently completed film Shark Angels shot on the Shearwater just months prior to the attack.

Ironically, the film was meant to raise awareness of sharks,promote non caged encounters with big predators as "safe" while promoting Wetpixel.com and the Shearwater at the same time.

Eric's defense of the Shearwater event went quickly from level reporting to savage attack allowing others through his website to smear anyone who was suspect of the Shearwaters methods or in favor of caged encounters.

This was a huge conflict of interest and one that Eric and others failed to realize as they pushed the wild shark feed agenda to anyone who would listen even going as far as to attack members of the Bahamas Dive Association.

In the end we can surmise the following:

1. Regardless of how you see this, non caged encounters with big sharks like Bulls, Tigers, Mako's and others have risks that far outweigh the commercial encounter.

2. Simple precautions can mitigate a death.

3. Always look deeper into the story and into the agendas of those who make the biggest effort in the aftermath of a disaster.
